chase the wild goose hostel
Comfortable backpackers hostel near Fort William and with great views of Ben Nevis from the village. Dating back to 1830 this is the last remaining wing of the old Banavie Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1924. When passing by on the train in 1873 Queen Victoria may have waved to us. Maybe she stayed the night! Popular with walkers, climbers, 3-peakers, independent travelers and all. Take a walk by Neptunes Staircase, or enjoy a drink in the famous Lochy Bar. Come and enjoy this amazing hostel. Free on-site car parking (and free over-flow nearby), a big kitchen and a lovely log fire to come home to, when the weathers really cold! Cycle the Great Glen Cycle Route (cycles are available for hire locally, and there is excellent secure cycle storage for your own bikes,) mountain bike at the World mountain-biking circuits on Aonach Mor and along the still shores of the Caledonian Canal and quiet back-roads. Or maybe go for an invigorating climb up Ben Nevis, the UK?s highest mountain. Walk the West Highland Way or the Great Glen Way- two must-walk, long distance footpaths beginning and ending at Fort William! Why not visit the Treasures of the Earth exhibition at nearby Corpach, or taste a drop (or two) of whisky at the Ben Nevis Distillery. Take a journey on a steam train along the railway of the Harry Potter films, and sail on the loch to spot wildlife. From the doorstep of the hostel you can visit the famous Neptunes Staircase on the Caledonian Canal. Enjoy a superb meal or drink at the Moorings hotel (100m), a pub meal at the Lochy bar (200m) or venture into Fort William (£6.00 by taxi) for some Scottish music. Or bring some food for a barbecue on the deck... Accommodation is in comfortable solid pine bunk beds, in rooms from four to eight persons. We have a total of 48 beds in the hostel - more than released onto the internet. Have a good night sleep! PLEASE NOTE: CHECK-IN OPEN 5.00pm - 10.30pm, and by arrangement outside these hours.
